British Rapid Fire Pistol shooter Sam Gowin has bagged himself a gold medal at ISAS Dortmund 2019 – his first competition since joining team ELEY!

Using our tenex pistol .22LR ammunition, Sam finished with a qualifying score of 572 – just a mere two points behind the top spot! This score meant that he went through to the final event, going head to head against the other qualifying shooters.

In the first stage of the final, Sam kept his cool and shot through the nerves to achieve three hits in two series and four hits in the last. This pattern continued into stage two, placing him firmly atop the leaderboard.

The fight for podium places finished with Sam Gowin four points ahead in first place, fellow Brit Kristian Callaghan securing second place and France’s Franck Kiefer in third.

“ISAS Dortmund has been a great competition. It has allowed me to put my training into practice and iron out any issues. The ELEY ammunition shot beautifully and felt really smooth in my barrel.” Sam commented. “The event has also helped me prepare for the Beijing world cup which is a quota place event, so I want to be on top of my game for then.”

ISAS is traditionally the opening competition for small caliber shooters with the acronym standing for International Saison Start for Shooters.

Since signing the sponsorship deal with ELEY in January 2019, Sam has been busy training with his “fav’ ammo”, getting in shape for the shooting season and achieving more personal bests. This promising early season training has paid off by converting into a medal winning performance

Sam is now in training for the ISSF World Cup in Beijing after being selected for team by British Shooting. The competition takes place from the 21st to 29th April and is another opportunity for him to secure a quota place for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Wishing him the best of luck!
